Academic Seminar Held by Center for Balkan Studies

A seminar was held at the turn of the Lunar Chinese New Year by the Center for Balkan Studies (CBS) of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the discussions on multiple topics were presided over by Prof. Fan Xiangtao, President of the College of Foreign Languages (CFL), NUAA. Focusing on Balkan countries of Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria and Romania, the seminar was broken up into six research groups to discuss and determine the research topics covering languages and language policies, education policies, the teaching and promotion of Chinese language in the region, the history of relations between China and the region, religious history, and the influence of the “Belt and Road Initiative” and the philosophy of “building a community of shared future for mankind” in the region. A consensus was achieved that, based on these research topics, efforts should be made to apply for the Think Tank Innovation Fund of the university, and in conjunction with its “Innovation Enhancement Project for Foreign Language Majors”, the Center would publish the above topics for students majoring in foreign languages to initiate their own research under the guidance of their tutors. The Center is working hard to apply for the establishment of “International and Area Studies” as a discipline in an effort to facilitate the university’s pursuit in building a world-class university with world-class disciplines and provide information and reference for the “Belt and Road Initiative”.

On April 9, 2018, Prof. Zhang Lixin and Dr. Zhao Fuchun attended the symposium on “Model United Nations and the Training of Talents with International Vision” hosted by CFL, and exchanged views with Song Yunfu, former senior diplomat at the World Health Organization.
